While we are talking again about sql server + vfp why not add a few commands to the VFP language like

set sql on
- then when we issues create datebase - a gui comes up allowing us to create and modify sql database - and tables.

when the sql command was set on.- VPF would totally act as a front end to sql server. the xbase replace command, and so on, would be translated by VFP to sql server sql commands. and so on.

Sure this would require a complete rethinking of the market for VFP, and how it fits within Microsoft, but I for one, think that VFP is a great tool, and making it better would at this point require it being -BOLTED - to sql server. as an option.
here is the last thought. - and dont shoot me for this one. what about a the command
SET SQLANSI on - which gives VFP the ability to BOLT to other DATABASE servers out there. I for one work in an enviroment, which dont not restrict the use of non microsoft soltuions, Many of the computer my vfp 's apps have to communicate with are off site, at other companies, running Oracle, DB2 hp3000 and so on.

So maybe the set sql on is not really what I would need, but something more like

m_ok = opensqldata("mssql.mysqlmyserver.com",dsn=MSsql,name=myloacalsql etc etc.)

Sure we have this now. actually I am doing this sort of programming now for my company, But, its quite slow going. - just some thoughts for VFP 8

In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
