assume you won't be using a IIS server anywhere?
open the sql port on your firewall and expose it as a TCP/IP port for SQL ODBC - then set up a system dsn on each workstation - and then deliver a crystal reports canned report set to them.

build a small portion of your web site around the crystal reports report object for webstuff and let the users key in their own selection criteria...
