I did that, but my question remains WHY having to need to do that for the FIELD?

m.lo1 = "ma " so ALLTRIM(UPPER(m.lo1)) makes it "MA"

and

should find
"Grandma Smith"
"Grandma Smith       "
"       Grandma Smith"
"Grandma        Smith"
Right?
