The Square brackets date back to FoxBase+, I think. In FoxPro Dos/Win, the use of them fell out of general use although they have always been supported. I use Square brackets whenever possible because of the easy of reading. Square brackets are easier to see than single quotes and if your text string has an apostrophe, this blows the single quotes.
