One idea that i had for this (but never implemented) was to do as Craig suggests - run the spt Async
Within SQL (or Oracle) update a progress table which can then be queried to produce a progress bar from within VFP.

you may need to do this from within a SP - or have some kind of method call from within your query to update the progress table.

As I said I never implemented this idea but i'm sure you could get it to work with a bit of effort.
