One last (cheating) solution...

If you have control over what's in the Excel file - you could put a start of line and end of line marker in each cell you want to extract then grab the file with a filetoStr (or fOpen/fRead) and extract each line of text.

Or.. you could delve into the structure of an Excel file... but it's probably not worth it!
