ok, the foxhelp.chm, which does exist and does work when I click on it, but not when I execute these commands inside visual fox:

set help to "d:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\msdn98\98vs\1033\foxhelp.chm"
set help on

Meanwhile I'm going to see if I can move the .col from a working computer and see what happens on this one.
