Assuming this is someone in his day care or something like that, $15 to $20 should do it. For a 2-year-old, I really like a lot of the Fisher-Price stuff that encourages imaginative play. Things like the little school bus or the barn toy. I can't remember what the age rating is on the those offhand, though. Playskool makes some really things, too.

I'd just go to Toys 'R Us or Zany Brainy, if you have them there, and browse for something that looks like fun.
