Merant DataDirect Connect ODBC drivers do handle Clipper and it's NTX.

I have barely played with it, enough to see that it looks like it works, but I haven't done any heavy testing with it. I don't know if there are others.

What do you mean? If you mean you can't open the file, the Clipper application probably uses it exclusive, and you're out of luck. If you mean that locking in VFP doesn't prevent you from locking the same record in the Clipper application, it's normal because they don't use the same locking mechanism. Hopefully the ODBC driver above will solve your problem.
