>I am running IE 5.5 and, though I've never experienced the problem you have described, I have had another problem in the past. It dealt with child windows that would not load. I found out that my IE install had become corrupt. I fixed it with the following steps (try this if you are using IE 5.5):
>
>1. Close all open apps.
>2. Start > Run
>3. Enter the command: rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance
>4. A dialog should appear with "Repair Internet Explorer" selected. Click
>OK.
>5. It will prompt you to reboot.

I tried that, it says: could not repair, since two files were missing (why?). I choosed Re-install, run setup, it quickly downloaded something, then said "Installation is complete" (no reboot) and nothing was changed. I'll try to download IE again and un-install it, then install.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
