>This is a question for any of the parents out there...did your kids take up programming as well? If so, when did they start? I have two little ones (the oldest just turned 2) and expect both of them to be pounding keyboards before they hit grade school. Given some of the mayhem I caused as a young'un, I'm almost afraid of what they might do ("Gee Dad, I didn't mean to tank NORAD...")

My older boy (18) is a prototypical end-user. He's happy to play games and did succeed in hooking up his computer to his stereo's surround sound system in his dorm, so that he could watch movies on DVD with stereo <g>, but he has no interest in programming.

My younger son (15) is extremely competent with computers. He does maintenance for my husband's corporate website, turns out some incredible stuff for school by combining the abilities of several apps, arranges music on the computer, and generally has no fear. I handed him VB when he was about 9, and he plays with it now and then. However, I doubt he'll end up in programming. He's more likely to be the next Steven Spielberg. <g>
