The MAPIMail class works fine for simple email creation, such as creating and displaying an new email message, as long as you have set your mail default to GroupWise. Unfortunately, GW isn't fully MAPI compliant. I've also played with the GW API calls to create session objects, then create new emails. I've done it successfully for emails sent to GroupWise addressees (NGW-type) but it often fails when trying to send to Internet:-type addresses. I understand that Novell will be releasing version 6 very soon, which is supposed to follow the API standards much better (there was a lot of kludge code in 5.x versions).

Henry,

We implemented Nigel's class for GroupWise too. You're right, first requirement is to set GroupWise to be default mail client. Our Newtwork Administrator sent me a special program, which does that. We also use this class only for sending messages (didn't try receive option). It works for outside e-mails in 90% cases and for GroupWise Address Book 100%, but only for common part of Address Book. For instance, my Address Book is divided by 3 sections, first is common for all employees here, second is my personal and the last one is recent entries. I was unable to use my personal entries (say, I have an entry George Tasker, it didn't work as it is, but worked if I specified his correct e-mail address).

IOW, the simple functionality could be achieved, but GroupWise has to be default e-mail client for this computer.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
