Off the wall idea: Is it possible the user running the app didn't have file creation rights on the directory where the indexes reside?

>Can a hanging thread or other file reference affect reindexing. One out of many customers using our software experienced an error during a reindex routine where the code completed deleting all tags but when rebuilding the tags it failed. Several of the tables in the .dbc were left with no indexes (generally considered a bad thing) The code completed executing and gave the user a message that the reindex routine had failed. The user claims that there was no power failure and that nothing unusual happened. The routine itself gets exclusive use of tables and locks other users out of the system. I checked this particular customers data out locally and the reindexing routine ran fine.(once I restored the lost indexes manually) Is it possible to have a reference to a table that allows deleting of tags but doesnt allow rebuilding them??
