They were highly reviewed by MCP magazine as being very topical and relevent. Each test is broken down by functional area. A lot of effort went into each test to ensure that it measured the minimally qualified VFP developer. They are worth the effort to take, even if you fail you'll gain insight as to where you are strong and where you're weak in VFP development.

Cindy and Evan have written a wonderful book to help you prepare. And, by all means, get certified. It can't hurt.
