I'm now responsible for a database written by someone else that uses referential integrity when updating/deleting a rather large table (400,000 records). Whenever I have to make one manual change to the data, if I do it while RI is in place it takes about 30-45 seconds for the change to take place. If I remove RI the change is immediate.
Since speed of this database is one of the issues that's really upsetting the client I'd like to just get rid of RI altogether. However, I haven't had time to go through all of the code to see if there would be any adverse affects from doing that. Is there anything specific I can look for in the code that would tell me whether or not it's safe to get rid of all the RI references?
Thanks.
