Jim;
I remember one of the computer shows in San Francisco, where the vendor was showing off web software that would “collect” information from your “viewing habits” and put it into a database. You would then allow your user to have a “viewing experience” based upon this information. You were encouraged to collect and sell your data. That was five years ago and things have “matured”.
If anyone gets your e-mail address it may end up in some marketing companies database. There is little privacy these days. Some people could not believe that the State of California DMV was selling names and addresses to marketing companies. Anything for a buck!
A place where I worked had an ISP (name withheld) that was unreal. I would get to work in the morning and have a mail box full of x-rated advertisements, along with "get rich quick" crap. Stuff like - Send me ten dollars and send this letter to ten people. You will make a $100,000 a day like I am. This is not a pyramid scheme. It is real - just try it. I called the ISP to complain and they could care less - it was a part of the ISP’s revenue.
You never know how any information is going to be used.
Tom
