>mmm...come on, Mike, you're not that stupid. And, things have changed drastically since you've been away.

Must have. It's been over a year since I attempted to load what was touted as the "no-brainer" distribution. Setting up X-Windows was no easier than it ever was, and it had been long enough since I knew anything about X-Windows to make it the same headache I remembered. I'd had numerous other problems that even a Windows power user would probably never solve. If I hadn't had previous Unix experience, I doubt I would have figured it out.

Hmm, things have improved. Though I may have the Microsoft logo tattooed on my butt, I'm one of the few people that can say they remember when Linux consisted of a kernel, and that's it. Want an editor? Write your own. Want the "cat" command? It's not in the kernel, so start coding. "Ah, what a novel idea, and how quaint that this Finnish guy is trying to clone Unix." Little did I know at the time...

> I had to rebooted only once. The SuSE Server Options are just as easy. >Microsoft isn't any easier.

Hmm, I'll have to check it out. Gotta keep tabs on the competition, ya know. :-)

>Depends on your definition of 'anytime soon.' You may be suprised. The speed with which development on the kernel and KDE scene are taking place is astounding. A benifit of the 'Bizzar'.

I have other reasons for thinking open source isn't going to take over the world, but it's a long argument that I don't currently have time for. Time will tell, though.

StarBridge? Eh, wot?

> You have my curiosity though... what does "FP" stand for?

Get ready to slap hand to forehead..."FoxPro". There was a single version of FP 2.6 for Unix that was released after Microsoft bought Fox Software. It was released mainly due to the promise made by Fox previously, and no later versions were released.

> The learning curve will be similar to moving to C#, if not steeper.

I'm not really qualified to speak to that, due to my C++ background, but I wouldn't think C# would be that much of a leap for a decent VFP dev. Just make sure you declare everything beforehand, and you'll be fine. :-)

>Good luck in your Microsoft endevors! I appreciate your contributions to the vFP community.

Thanks.
