Gary, in / or on the internet forum about two weeks ago, there was a thread, (very long one about this topic) really about how to use foxweb - from an isp. I bring this up, becuase there was tons of good information about how to do it, if you didnt, or couldnt set one up yourself.

But, to bring you up to speed. here is what I assume. from your postings about bellsouth.

Sure they will let you host data, dbf's and look at it, with asp - via odbc, or ado. but they are giving you read and execute permissions, not - write permissions. that where it gets sticky. VFP running as you know, writes temp files. and if you dont have write permissions, ...

My understanding of most vfp web apps, requires at least the runtime, not only be installed, but running as well on the server. taking some of the processing power ... there might be some web hosting company out there (who allow for this.) I heard west wind will of couse set you up with a server to run west wind... in order to run vfp apps - web apps on the web. you usually need some sort of decicated server. ie colocating. What this takes is to get a machine running with your app. then ship it to some isp, who will connect it directly to the internet, give you an IP address. which you can then monitor it, yourself with vnc or pcanywhere. or something like that.

But the point is all an isp would be providing you is the bandwidth. and it can cost anywhere from 30 bucks a month to over 100 a month depending on traffic, and who is doing this for you.

if you have a dsl in your home, or office, you might check to see if you have an IP address you can use, or your isp can give you, a static ip,... Then, just host the site yourself. Its not that big of a deal to host a web app, site yourself (as long as you have bandwidth.)

HTH.

What do you do then, put your own server on their pipe? Lease a T1. I just want to demo some data driven web apps as well as sell my software to a target audience and actually have a commerce site eventually.

In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
