John
Looking at this thread it looks as if the preferred option is to buy a server and get someone like you to Co-Locate.
I need to gave a web site into which my clients can dial to retrieve data which I put there for them. Maybe 1000 clients with 1 access per day on average. The server runs 2 flat files, the first of which returns a record no for the key the client enters and then the second file is accessed by this record no.
I need to upload (full replacement data) twice a day, I would thingk into a temp directory on the server and then copy into the live directory. In this way (I think) the site would be out of action for seconds at a time.
My questions.
1. What spec machine do I need (20gb) probably enough?
2. Do I buy through you (since I am based in the UK)?
3. Am I correct in the assumption that I can write a VFP application on the server?
4. Is there any way I can set up my application and test it without either buying or leasing? I need to be able to see what is possible before I get to involved in cost.
5. Am I correct in assuming that my server would have a static IP address and that I could operate either via pcAnywhere or FTP?
6. If I have a static IP address on the server, I assume that I can log on to the drive and run the application as if I were on a normal network.
7. Firewall, anti-virus implications?
and many more questions
