Well, remember that labels can have their values changed programatically. As such, when a REFRESH is requested/performed the VFP engine would need to know how you wanted to update the form. I'm not a proponent of using form labels for application messaging but you could trigger an event based upon a label I suppose.

For example, you could change the formating of a US ZIP code to a Canadian Postal code dynamically based upon a county identifier label, which in turn could be based upon some global or form-based flag.
