This is standard procedure. VFP7 is almost ready for release. The development team is starting on VFP8. They could take a year or more just for planning and testing different things before going to beta.

We have no way of knowing when MS plans to release VFP8. I don't worry about that. I'll be using VFP7 and getting good results with it.
