>>Using a source control application always adds to the development costs as well.
>You are right - source control is a real cost and should be considered up front at the begining of any project, along with training time per employee. The amount saved by source control is a variable and I see no way to define it as a "real savings". However, for anyone who has used the features of VSS, etc. to help "save the bacon", it is priceless! I even use it at home for my consulting jobs. The biggest benifit to me is within a multi developer environment.

Well, I guess I would consider it more of a form of insurance, and analagous to your general business liability coverage, etc. But the hours spent using source control, is budgetable, whereas the hours spent correcting situations where one developer is stepping on another, or the heavy cost of a separate developer having to spend his/her time on managing modifications done by the rest of the team. "Saving the Bacon" will usually result in larger servings at the Saturday Morning Breakfast too! <g>
