Thanks to all who replied. Because I had to zero out 4 repeating fields and then update a real table I used a
combination of the suggestions (here and compuserve).

1. Use SQL SELECT to retrieved desired data. Save data in a cursor.
2. Make cursor updateable.
3. Zero out repeating values (2 based on an account number and two based on a requestion number.
4. Create report (where sums now work since only first occurance of repeating values is non-zero.
5. Use non-zero values to update a real table.

I leaned a lot. Again thanks to everyone for their help.
