Release tells the VFP form to go away. It doesn't really go away until all the code in the release sequence executes. That means finishing the current method (whatever it is and any method/procedure it calls), firing the form's Destroy then the UnLoad events (also firing any method/procedure they call). Opening another form modally just after you tell the form to release short circuits the process.
