I'm fishing here, but it bugs me that you get the error on any record, yet you can edit in a browse window. That doesn't sound like the Unit records are locked. Two questions come to mind...
1. If there was another table involved in the save, and perhaps that's where the problem is.
2. If some condition is causing the reservation program to default to some other record in Unit. I had that happen in a FPD program once. It ran fine for two years, then once every few months the program would try to save to the first record. We never found out why, but added code to check if it was record one before it saved.
