thanks for the tip, however I just checked the help file and it states that the default is the startup directory, which is always going to be on teh local HD...

What I did (I have to try this at work to compare load times, since I'm on a laptop at home, currently) was move all the grids onto their own modal form with default data environment. This seems to help a lot as I don't have to pull data for teh grids when the form loads. The grid forms are called by command button. Much quicker load times.
