There are more functions which return index information - aside from what Alex mentioned - like cdx(), which returns the index filename, TagNo(), ordinal number of the currently active tag (or the tag whose name you supply as parameter), TagCount(), Unique(), Descending() etc. You can pretty much know anything about your indexes, including their shoe size :)
