The main problem with an ISP is that even with a DSN-less ODBC connection, you still need to know explicitly where the data files are stored on the server (d:\data or whatever). Whether that's in the same directory as your hosted space, or somewhere else.

Actually, the data shouldn't be in the same directory as your hosted space, because read/write security needs to be granted to the tables/directory, which wouldn't be good in the case of the directory containing your hosted site, as it would potentially give anonymous users the rights to alter your pages.
