The only reason those "holidays" exist is so that Sears, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc, etc, can have sales. As you said, I don't need to be told when to call my mom or kiss my wife.

Of course, since the commercialized holidays exist, if you DON'T do something to 'celebrate' them you are in the dog house.
