VBScript will not run on the client if they have Netscape. So runat server is really your only option for VBScript. You can run JavaScript on both client and sever but you will have to get creative with the way you write the code because both IE and NS have different object models for lots of stuff. You can do a lot of simple validation and things like that with the same code if are careful.
