How do I use bound fields on my form with SQL 7?

What I mean is this:

The data source my fields are bound to needs to be open in the Load
of the form.

I dont want to SELECT an entire table from SQL in the load just to
have a data source open for the fields to bind.

I was thinking of selecting the first record in the Load, just to get
a cursor open, then later, maybe in the Init, call a parameterized
query to get the record I want to display

Is it possible to use NODATA to do this, or maybe MaxRecord = 0?

Any ideas on this?
