This is always interesting. Remember that you're not using the resources of the network, SQL Server is, or more specifically, the account that SQL Server runs under.

If SQL Server is running under the LocalSystem account, it will have no access to network resources. You'll have to run SQL Server under another account.

I'm not sure how this will work with Novell. You might be better off writing the backup to the local machine and then copying it to the network with another task.

If you want to try something, log onto the SQL Server under the same account that SQL Server uses. See if you can create a persistant drive mapping.
