Mike,
If it has already open it's accepted like 'set database to' (just switches). No table closure with ooen database, there might be open multipl at the same time. However if you issue close database for a dbc its tables are closed too.
Also opening a table in a dbc automatically opens its database but doesn't do an implicit 'set database'.
