The setup program provided by the Setup Wizard can't do this because it's a 16 bit application and, because of this, has no knowledge of the way Win32 handles short cuts. The alternative is to use a post-setup executable to create the link files. My LNKFILES.DLL can provide the information you need (in reagards to the location of the Desktop, Start Menu, etc.) and create the file for you. I've used this myself and have had no problems. It's available in the download section.
An alternative, if available, is the Windows Script Host's WScript.Shell object, which can do the same thing. For more information check out the series that Ed Rauh and I wrote beginning in the last October issue of the VFUG newsletter. The articles are available on-line at the VFUG site (
