If you just want to send the file to it's registered program you can use ShellExecute() or the _shellexecute class. There's some examples over on m website.

>Does anybody know how to determine what type a file is.
>Meaning I have a file what a non specified extension let's say .viv.
>But this could be a zip, doc, pdf or mp3 file.
>
>How can I know what type of file this is. Without having to change the extension and see if I can open it with Winzip, Word, Adobe, or an audio player.
>
>Because I can see in Windows 2000, the explorer, shows for a file with extension zip, and a valid zipfile, in the status bar, how many files are in the zip file.
>If it is an invalid zipfile, it shows a tool tip with something like bad zipfile.
>
>For an mp3 file it shows the small player (slider). If it's not a valid mp3 file the slider get's disabled.
