Hi!

It occurs each time Cntrol Source assigned to column. When you use grid class and control sources are defined in the form (user of that class), think how VFP loads that grid - first time load class, set up column width, than, when reading properties defined on the form, control source changed, that causes grid column to reset to the width of the column.
The same thing happens with Record source and certain other properties.
Never use grid class with the columns already defined in it, its a lot of troubles.

In addition, take a look to the FAQ#8019 about Grid reconstruction. This is another issue that can be a source of the problem.

HTH.

>anytime I use a grid control that displays fewer coumns than the driving table or the total width of all the columns is greater than the width of the control ( requires horizonatal scroll ) the column widths I set are ignored and are set to the field widths of the driving table ( all logicals now have column width of 1 and Description has room for 200 character even though the average will only be 10 ( I set it to 80 ) ).

>how can I force the column widths init with what I set them to? ( I've tried setting movable and sizable to fault, but that sisn't seem to work, and i want the user to be able to do it if they want anyway.)

The professional level of programmer could be determined by level of stupidity of his/her bugs

It is not appropriate to say that question is "foolish". There could be only foolish answers. Everybody passed period of time when knows nothing about something.
