Gerry,

>>>No one is forcing you to buy the product. The problem is the 'them', not the makers of Refox. That's been my point. It's kind of like calling people who make steel bars for prisons extortioners. No, they just make a product to protect someone from a 'bad guy'.<<
>
>I know what your point is; I just happen to disagree with it.

I can accept that. I suspect we're headed to 'agree to disagree' land. <g>

>
>And I fail to see the relevance of your "steel bars" example, since without ReFox, there wouldn't have been a "window" to protect (in this case).

You are indeed missing the whole point. Without thieves and crooks you also wouldn't need steel bars. It's the people who steal who cause the need for products like Refox, not the product! <g>

You're essentially saying that without steel bars there wouldn't be anything to protect by those steel bars. That makes no sense whatsoever Gerry.

>I happen to know what kind of locks you use on your house. I also happen to have a master key that I'll give away for the asking. Of course, "I am not the problem"; just the people I give the key to.

Except I have a gun. IOW, I have protection and I'll blow your brains all over my walls if you break in. Or the person to whom you give the key.

Actually, I don't own a weapon but in this case I see the gun as my lawyer who will hit you so hard with a lawsuit it'll knock you into last week if you steal my product. I understand that I cannot always protect my source code but if I have spent oodles of money developing a product I can guaran-damn-tee you that I will know if you are using a stolen copy of my software since I know my industry.

>
>But I guess that's the same as saying: "Keys don't open locks; people do".
>
>LOL

And you can also say that locks will only keep honest people out. As I've said before, the real problem is the thievery in the hearts of some humans, not the product that helps a few protect themselves from the thieves. You're not focusing on the real problem and trying to blame a product for the results of a human condition it seems.
Best,
