I agree with you and have had the same experience. After a while you realize that it is best to give your advice and do what you are told. I have other creative outlets (flamenco guitar for one) that allow me to do what I want, within acceptable limits. It is not a joy to realize your ideas will not be used but it is part of being an employee.

I think that part of the problem is that programmers are expressing a type of creativity and find it hard to accept doing less than they consider the best possible job they are capable of.
