I just checked some old sounds I created years ago. I see what you mean.

Tamar and Ted in the _Hacker's Guide to Visual FoxPro 3_ say that SET BELL TO [nFreq, nSecounds] is for MS-DOS only. Evidently the only way to play a sound in VFP is with a wav.
