Good question...

I used to have buffering in the two forms, but was told to remove it and use SCATTER/GATHER because the guy I work with prefers to use SCATTER/GATHER in his multi-user environment. He might be afraid of the record-locking/networking issues related to buffering and he already knows how to use SCATTER/GATHER on his network.

I think I have the record-locking multi-user network stuff relative to buffering figured out, but I don't know if he trusts my knowledge in that area.
