no, the file isn't indexed at all! it never has more than a few hundred records, and it is a shared file, so I don't see any performance reason to use an index, as the records are added and then only processed once.

I use the go bottom/go top before locates because I have seen it make a difference in the past, to demonstrate, turn status ON from command window and open a table, have someone at another computer add records, your status bar won't show the new reccount(), issue a go top and usually it updates the status line instantly!

hackers guide suggests the header isn't updated right away, & I need to figure out where to enhance my settings to speed it up! I wonder if there is a better area here to discuss table buffering, but I suspect the answer is buried in foxisapi anyway!

have you had any similar problems where an index was helpful?
