Elyse,
Do you have a method of forcing the active control's Valid() code to run when you click a toolbar button? VFP behavior is to NOT process the Valid() code if a form is closed from an outside procedure. Most frameworks call a function that does this and there are several methods given in various threads. My recollection is that you need to call the SetFocus() method of the activecontrol

>My users are complaining that if they enter an invalid date in a textbox and then try to save the form by clicking on the toolbar button without leaving the field, the record is saved with an empty date. What's the best way to keep them in the field and warn them of the invalid date entry?
