>I gather from your response that Delphi 5 code will work in Kylix? If that is true - will it run on the linux environment including printing? From what I have seen with other programs on linux the printing is setup via printcap, interface models, etc. This of course is not the way windows works. So how is that dealt with? Will doc's explain these issues or can you direct me to a website that explains the best way to handle printing with kylix? I really wish my package would arrive.

OOP Pascal is OOP Pascal. Kylix is Identical to Delphi 6, and in the identifer of the Kylix Linux binaries is the phrase "Delphi for Linux, version 14". The changes between Delphi 5 and 6 will have to be honored. Improvements in 6 may render some coding in 5 unnecessary. If you want platform independence you will use CLX on both platforms for easy porting in either direction. (X stands for 'cross platform' not X-server)

Just like windows, it depends on the print driver you have installed.
I use the LexMark z52 and it's Linux driver, which doesn't use Printcap. When I send something to the printer the destination is shown as lpr, and the output is second to none. The puppy is fast, too!

When I was using my BJC-620 or my BJC-4000 via Printcap I was presented with the same option in the printer dialog. Printing was also excellent. I do not know which distro you are using but, assuming it is either RH, Mandrake or SuSE, all of them have printer configuration utilities which will do what Kylix needs to have done. Kylix is, after all, a Linux app. I noticed that Kylix adds to the list of TT fonts available to the printer.
