Barbara, Craig, and Nadya,

Thanks... I knew that the overall color scheme was controlled by windows. I don't want to change everything--you're right it would drive other users nuts.

I have one form on which I want to create an array of buttons that the user can select their own colors for. These buttons will have a combination of icons and colors to let them make the form look pleasing to them.

Windows provides an 'Owner-Drawn Control' property that allows the application (rather than Windows) to control the way that particular control is painted. I was looking for a way to do this through VFP (there's ALWAYS a way!), I'm just not sure how many hoops I'll have to jump through. I wonder if anyone has tried twiddling this stuff?

I was toying with the idea of a shape or container that would simulate a button. Perhaps that's the best way?
