>All of a sudden, GETFILE(), or any other command which cause the file spec dialog to be displayed, shows the files in non-alphabetic order (in fact, they are in no order of any kind, AFAICT). Clearly, I have inadvertently changed some system setting, but I'll be damned if I know when and what I did. (One possible clue is that I have been using the explorer to sort by mod date and/or file type)

Right-click in the file list area. Then change the sort order to what you want.
