IMO, it is a good idea to decouple your grids from their data sources. Grids, especially when bound to a related table, can do all kinds of weird things. Instead, I prefer to bind them to arrays. You can create an array property in your base List or Grid class. This is gives you an extra layer of abstraction between your data and the control.
