LOCATE is great for a single record, but when you say

set filter to &filter
COPY TO &tempfile

and get one record too many, you soon learn to say "Oops" instead of "## #@!&"

A single go top or go bott isn't quite enough if the table has only one record, or if you just did a SCAN or DO WHILE, so the GO TOP / GO BOTT keeps me out of trouble,
