John,

>Your ad hominam labelling of "emotional" and "sky falling" and "fretting" and all the rest of it, is beneath you. It also comes across as ever so slightly smug.

Your 'read', not my intent. To me in this case the expense of emotional energy seems wasted. That's all. I suppose I could be feeling smug but I'd rather call it a sense of confidence that the future isn't based on VFP. Rather, my God-given skills and to a small degree my discipline. <g>

I have just suggested that folsk redirect their emotional energies into more positive directions.

>I, too, am fairly secure whatever happens to VFP. More so that you might think. But I happen to have a great deal of valuable code tied up in VFP. As long as that code generates $ and the product is technically suitable I don't want to have to change- I already tried that once.

I remember reading your pain-filled posts. <g> Should I rest my case here and just let you make it for me? *gd&rvvvf!*

>Nor do I want to be an island though, Doug. there are lots of contractors and employees out there hurting. Can you not hear that? If they go away, where will I find staff? Do I want to be a lonely bastion of nihilistic conservatism? I think not.

Nor do I. As I mentioned if scheduling permits I'm taking a valuable resource (time - one whole day) to investigate and educate myself re: Delphi & Kylix.

Isn't 'nihilistic conservatism' an oxymoron? <g> We conservatives have hope. Not too sure about liberals though. < BG >

>My belief at present is that marketing to business decisionmakers is sorely needed.

Couldn't agree more. Results IMO are the best marketing which is why I made my suggestions about making good products. "Manager-Speak" also needs to be done but I'm not qualified as well as I should be in that arena. Not enough hair left to be pointy. <g>

>Based on past performance I don't believe MS has any intention of doing that.

Well, perhaps. Based on the continued investment in the product I'd think otherwise. *shrug* As JK said, let's eee what they do this time around.

>So I'm making sure that a few ads in FPA or consumer IT rags is not cast as a serious marketing campaign. Whether I'm right or wrong does not matter a jot as long as people watch what happens.

I understand the difference between marketing and advertising. <g>

>
>If that causes you to say I'm fretting, so be it.

If you are fretting I'm comfortable you feel that way. I choose not to so do and will continue to suggest that it's wasted effort- not directed at any specific individual.
Best,

DD
