This is the craziest thing.... I removed the project form VSS, and then told FoxPro NOT to use VSS anymore.

I then set up the project in VSS, added the files manually there, checked them out, went back to Foxpro and selected the project.

In FoxPro, the files were CHECKED out to me in the Project Manage (the little check marks were there!!!!) And everything seems to work ok with VSS and VFP, even though VFP has been told NOT to use VSS in the VFP options.
