>>They've tried that. Remember "Mastering Visual FoxPro"? It didn't sell.

>Did they do much marketing of the product? I know that I bought it based on an ad (in FPA I think). Was that the kind of "marketing" they did for the product? If so, and I suspect it was, then we will clearly need more than ad in the adherent's mags to grow VFP converts.
I don't know what they did.

>By the way, for my particular style of learning, I didn't "take" well to that Mastering CD.
That type of learning doesn't work for everyone. Other people did benefit with it.
>Maybe others felt the same way. I wonder if MS ever tried to find out?
I have no idea.

>Finally, a long time ago there was a discussion of VFP being out of TechEd because of poor attendance. One argument at the time was that that was a very poor bit of reasoning and if companies did that in the general case (put a product out and then cancelled it when it didn't sell right away) we'd have very few products today. Fortunately most companies realize that they have to spend money to MARKET a product before they can expect people to buy it. This means they generally lose money for a considerable period before they break even.
The product was produced and released by MS Press, not the Fox team, so any marketing effort, or lack of it, rests with a different group.
